According to a recent study by BPR Medical, the risk of fire when using medical oxygen at home (in cylinders or on oxyconcentrators) is greatly underestimated.
It is estimated that home fires related to oxygen use claim one victim every four days in the US from burns or inhalation of toxic fumes. This survey concludes that the likely annual number of deaths is higher than previous estimates by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
