RELAX. THINK TWICE BEFORE CLICKING ON A LINK
As part of the European Cyber Security Month, the Center Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) is launching the fifth edition of its cyber security awareness campaign. This time, it is once again tackling the phenomenon of phishing.
Phishing remains the main cybersecurity problem affecting Belgian citizens. It offers cybercriminals an important gateway to access computer devices and systems. This year (from January to September), we have already counted more than one million messages to suspect@safeonweb.be. Last year, the number of messages was 648,000 for the whole year. So we are seeing a big increase this year.
"Cybercriminals use phishing to spread malware, steal personal data or extort money. By improving the resilience of the Belgian population against phishing, we kill three birds with one stone. The more messages we receive at suspect@safeonweb.be, the more sites we are able to block. We block fake websites all the more quickly if people forward suspicious messages to us as soon as possible. The faster we act, the fewer victims there are. We therefore ask the Belgian public to continue to forward any suspicious messages to suspect@safeonweb.be and then delete them. - Miguel De Bruycker, CCB Director
Throughout the month of the campaign, we want to draw attention to the issue via radio spots, social media ads, banners and other campaign material. More info on the campaign website https://campagne.safeonweb.be/fr/phishing .
