On 6 June 2019, the Federal Knowledge Centre for Civil Protection (KCCE) published the 2016 statistical report of the rescue areas. A total of 616,245 interventions were carried out in 2016, of which 397,760 interventions in which urgent medical aid (AMU) was provided. Excluding emergency medical assistance, 218,485 interventions were carried out by the rescue zones.
Rescue and technical interventions" are the most numerous with more than 60% of the non-emergency fire brigade interventions. In addition, fires represent 10.89% of the interventions with 23,783 interventions.
The number of victims is higher than in 2015 with 32 dead and 340 injured. The attacks of 22 March 2016 probably influenced these data.
Overall, the 2016 statistics are characterised by relative stability compared to the 2015 statistics. Indeed, the number of fire incidents increased slightly (+6%) while rescue and technical interventions decreased significantly (-13%). This decrease can be explained by the fact that there were fewer interventions relating to dangerous animals (wasps, hornets, etc.) (87,648 in 2015 for 59,425 in 2016).
