The Flemish government has just published a new Housing Code "CODEX WONEN 2021", which includes various Flemish decrees relating to housing and, in particular, the text of the decree of 1 June 2012 on the protection of dwellings by means of optical smoke detectors
Book 3 of the new code deals with the quality control of housing.
Article 3.1 stipulates that every dwelling must be equipped with smoke detectors or a fire detection system that has been tested and certified by an approved body.
The code also states that smoke detectors must comply with EN 14604 and not be of the ionic type.
